ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR- LEADERSHIP

Leadership above management is a talent that involves the incorporation of the learnt knowledge and the individual experience tactics to help make the best decision. Others may term it as the use of psychological factors to make best decisions in whatever circumstance. But all in all, the most important question is whether there is any lesson or experience gained from the exposure from the different leadership styles and the way to cope with them.

In my essay, I will discuss three different mentors, their leadership characters and traits and their differences and how they helped shape my leadership skills.

College life is the level in life where one gets real exposure to the different living styles and the specialization into the specific area of expertise. But how many of these graduate students in todays world work in a completely different field from their field of expertise This reminds me of the different ways of life I experienced during my college life and during an attachment time.

On reporting for the studies in my current college, I neither had any knowledge nor experience on matters relating to the business world. I recall my fellow former college mates who graduated three years earlier who we used to have a common mentorship group. Surprisingly, one day we had a business argument and settled to a decisive conclusion to start up a partnership information technology business. We chose the chief executive officer for the firm, the finance officer the sales manager and was chosen as the research department executive. Within no time our business was thriving and was able to make some profits which I would attribute to our organizational skills and management.

This in essence, was determined by the leadership traits and character inherent with the respective partners. The chief executive officer was a long time friend called Alfred whom I nicknamed Perfectionist. He was very honest and credible, which helped him face the various uncertainties in the business environment. The decisions he made were credible and well thought out his natural sincerity and integrity helped us build trust in him which helped to consolidate the firms foundation. During the performance of the designated duties, Alfred was very competent by incorporating the set principles and deductive reasoning. This excluded the authoritative manner of ruling experienced with some of the management staff who posses the overall authority in the running of companies. (Donclark)

In every thing he did, he portrayed a high level of intelligence and forward minded ideas. This was done through the setting of company goals and objectives and working in part with other executives in the industry from different companies to achieve the objectives and the set targets.  The chief executive had a strong stamina and endurance, which was very inspiring and triggered a lot of confidence on the performance of his duties. Nevertheless, though he was outspoken, he believed on talking less but listening more as a professional strategy for gathering developmental tactics. This also demanded for a broad and innovative mind considering that the business environment is dynamic and mutates daily and if one is stagnant and outdated is at a risk of run over by competition (Donclark).

The financial officer was a young, social lady by the name of Margaret who would dialogue for hours. With her sociable trait, she was able to market the company in the banking industry and secured a loan from one of the financial institutions. This was payable within the provided time limit. She was a miser when it came to the expenditure of the companys finances and this helped to reduce the miscellaneous expenses and increase on the profit margin for the company.  She was very intelligent, where she spent most of her free time in the study room researching on more information to advance her knowledge. In all the transactions that were done, there was a lot of transparency and honesty when working on the financial books. She was a good investor and she spent entirely almost what she received to invest in other businesses. Money matters are the major platform that dictates the level of excellence of an investment. There was competence in the performance of her duties to avoid any careless mistakes that could lead to the wrong financial statements that would lead to poor planning. The financial manager was also straight forward and could make decisive action at the right time. This was a very great implication towards the repayment of the loan that the company had received for its financial stability. With her great enthusiasm and optimism, it paved way to risk taking financial steps that later turned as the profit multipliers. This also helped to connect with the right financial institutions to an extent where the company was receiving investment advices for free. (Donclark).

There was the deductive reasoning partner who took over as the sales manager. He was a very outgoing leader who spent most of his time networking with potential clients, including the fellow students. With his high level of imagination and creativity, the department of information technology developed a local area networking system that was indirectly used to market the companys products. He was broad minded and used every other opportunity to market the company. A very confidence man who endured any terrain and weather conditions, if it meant business and this made him proficient to matters involving public relations. He could quickly identify a power base and decide if to use a group or a team in that case to utilize the potential. His creativity turned the company into a technical company that produced the potential services and eventually the company was turned into a multi career consultancy firm. It was through his passion and enthusiasm and ability to closely negotiate that the company is a success. He knew exactly what the community required and went ahead to provide the products. (Donclark)

The three mentors totally changed my perception towards business. The three partners had some common leadership traits that led to the success. All the leaders had diverse intelligence which helped them to achieve good business contacts and make consultative decisions. They were very creative, honest, broad minded, forward looking, straight forward and inspiring in all the activities that they performed in the company. However, there were some unique traits in the managers that made each of them to fit the department and the duties that heshe was performing. This contributed to the chief executive role to turn the company global whereas the sales manager embarked on optimum local supply of the services.

Whereas the chief executive was good at listening, the finance manager and the sales manager were good orators. The finance department was mean in resources whereas the sales department involved spending a lot of money for good marketing. The chief executive was a perfectionist in the performance of his duties whereas the other managers were risk takers to help explore the market broadly.  For the best performance in the business, the sales manager ability to mingle with the consumers was vital whereas the chief executive required the executive character to achieve the best from the executive class.

Consolidating all the knowledge that I was able to get from the mentors helped me to perfectly play my research role. This later replicated when the company even diversified the expertise since the research department is the major department of the company to date. I also developed a network of relations and highly improved in the sales process. Without believing I was once a conservative, now I can face any type of research that is laid by the clients. To me, the market progress and evaluation of the best market candidates appears to be in born.

Surely that was experience before education and that helped me to broaden my mind and to be result oriented. Today I am a team player who is apt in learning and incorporating new concepts to a progressive end.
